Our engineers wanted to develop an engine that was extremely clean and efficient, but still offered maximum driving enjoyment..

The result

They invented our award-winning TSI engine which uses ‘twin charger’ technology to combine the benefits of petrol and diesel power units. It’s smooth, quiet and delivers high torque throughout the speed range with no turbo lag. So you get outstanding performance with the benefits of fuel economy and low emissions.
No wonder it was voted Best New Engine 2006 in the International Engine of the Year Awards.

TDI engine
Out Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) engines with common rail injection are responsive and fun to drive, as well as being incredibly efficient.

Compared to the unit injector principle, the common rail technology noticeably reduces the engine noise level. Moreover, the new TDI common rail engines from Volkswagen achieve reductions in fuel consumption and emission values.

DSG Direct Shift Gearbox
With our groundbreaking Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) you have two clutches, resulting in fast, smooth gearshifts and uninterrupted driving. And if you want to take control, the gear lever’s Tiptronic function lets you change to sportier, manual mode.

Adaptive Chassis control

With the Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) you can decide the precise degree of sportiness and comfort you want for each journey.

A button in the centre console operates electrically regulated dampers and steering for this adaptive chassis control system.

Three ride setting are offered: normal, sport and comfort. The damping also adapts itself to the best state for the respective road conditions.

So whether you’re in the mood for a sharper, sportier drive, or just want to settle back and enjoy a relaxed journey, it’s up to you
